I am also a total sucker for the animal characters Roberts writes and her loving description of the landscape, homes and towns she sets her stories within. In fact the relationships are only sealed as permanent when our heroine knows where she is (and how strong she is) in other areas of her life. I like the emphasis on friendships as well as romance that Nora Roberts adds into the mix so it isn't all about finding the right man. It is not breathtaking, but there is comforting easy listen to be found in the escapism and the attention to details of idealised small town American life. With Nora Roberts the heroine will face fear and heartache down and be thrown together with family or friends old and new as well as a lasting love interest who will stay the course as she finds out what she wants. It is worth listening to if you want a traditional romance novel with a heroine escaping a past that includes violence from the worst kind of man - and the odd malicious or cold woman -.and finding her path in life. You know where you're going with a Nora Roberts' suspense romance but that's half the fun of the journey. Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not? I usually enjoy Nora's stand alone books, but this one had a tired, and over-used, plot that was obvious and she used a plot device that was used in Hot Rocks, one of the 'In Death' books, so I saw that coming too. The family interactions were well written. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you? However, her male character voices were less pleasant. She does a good job with the Southern accents and female character differentiation. What does January LaVoy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book? I went through 16 hours of the story to get to the ending I could see coming from a mile away. The ending was obvious from the first minutes of the book. What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!) So I would recommend the book with caution. The fact that none of the characters in the book ever voiced the possibility of it ending this way - really - was not believable and became tedious. However, the book's ending was apparent from the very beginning of the book. I would recommend it for the good characters and strong dialogue. Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend?
